May 18-25 is National Paramedic Services Week. This year’s theme is “We Care. For Everyone.” highlighting the professionalism and commitment of paramedics in providing compassionate and high-quality care.
This year, students in SLC’s Paramedic program completed their first full year in the new state-of-the-art simulation lab. This technology gives Paramedic students the opportunity to experience simulated real-life scenarios and practice, helping to better prepare them for the realities of paramedic work, including managing distractions and noise that may be present on scene.
Paramedic students also participated in an EMS bootcamp that brings nine Eastern Ontario Paramedic services together to introduce the roles and challenges of paramedics to new emergency and family doctor residents. SLC’s Paramedic students give an orientation of the ambulance and its equipment and act as patients for a variety of scenarios.
First- and second-year Paramedic students participated in the Virtual Work Integrated Learning initiative (Virtu-WIL) hosted by Colleges & Institutes Canada (CICan). The students completed three virtual simulations and debriefs, introducing students to real-world situations, allowing students an opportunity to participate with these simulations in a safe and positive environment.
We are very excited to announce that 90%+ of this year's graduating class has confirmed a job offer with a paramedic service before officially graduating in June!
