Whether it be at the Varsity, Extramural, Intramural, or Recreational level, there are a number of opportunities students and get involved with at all three campuses.
Athletics and Recreation receive tremendous support from the College and each Student Government body for its importance to the overall student life experience while attending college. Varsity teams participate in the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) as the St. Lawrence College Surge.
Varsity Sports
St. Lawrence Surge varsity teams are consistently competing for a Provincial and National Championship in several sports. Playing at the varsity level is making a commitment as teams practice regularly during their season in addition to team meetings, video reviews, travel and competition. However, the skills gained in time management, problem-solving and teamwork are extremely valuable outside the College, making student-athletes sought after employees.
Badminton, golf, cross country and indoor soccer are considered tournament sports within the OCAA where teams travel to various tournaments during the school year leading up to a Regional Championship, then Provincial then (if our team qualifies) a National Championship.
Basketball, outdoor soccer, and rugby are considered league sports within the OCAA where teams travel across Ontario, competing in a regular-season schedule against other Ontario Colleges. At the end of the regular season, teams qualify for Crossover games where the winners move onto OCAA Provincial Championships followed by a National Championship (there is no National Championship for rugby).
All three league sports are operated out of the Kingston campus, in addition to golf. Badminton is operated out of Brockville. Cross-country and Indoor soccer are based out of Cornwall. However, St. Lawrence College students are welcome to play on any varsity team on any campus. There are coaches and staff on each campus to support student-athletes and accommodations can be made for travelling.
Extramural Sports
Hockey is considered an extramural sport within the OCAA. St. Lawrence College has a men's team on the Brockville and Cornwall campus and a women's team in Cornwall. Just like with varsity sports, students on any campus are able to play on any team.
Hockey teams travel throughout the school year to roughly three or four teams, culminating in a year-end championship tournament against other Colleges and some University club teams.
Intramurals
For those not interested in competing at the varsity or extramural level but are still looking to be active and play sports, intramurals are your answer. Sports include basketball, volleyball, dodgeball, futsal, and even E-Sports.
Leagues run each semester, are co-ed and include plenty of perks including SWAG, prizes and free food!
Personal Fitness
All campuses are equipped with fitness centers to accommodate all levels of fitness. Full-time students studying at the Brockville and Kingston campuses also have access to local YMCA locations through the use of their student cards. This comes at no additional cost to students. For more information regarding the campus fitness centers please follow the link.
Recreation
During the year, a number of events pop up at each campus to engage the student population. Be on the lookout for these events with your student email and the URSLC Engagement app.
