TRANSFER CREDITS

At St. Lawrence College, we recognize the value of courses completed at other accredited post-secondary institutions. Transfer credits may be awarded if the learning outcomes meet a minimum 80% equivalence to courses within your program of study.

TRANSFER CREDITS EXTERNAL

If you have previously completed post-secondary credits at an external institution, you can apply to transfer those credits to your current program, provided they are deemed equivalent and meet eligibility criteria. Find detailed information on this process in our Academic Policy under Section 11: Transfer of Credit (External).

To initiate the application process, please submit an External Transfer Credit Application here.

TRANSFER CREDITS INTERNAL

Students transferring between different St. Lawrence College programs may automatically receive credit for identical courses shared between programs. For non-identical courses, you can apply to transfer credits from your previous St. Lawrence College studies, subject to equivalence. More details are available in our Academic Policy under Section 12: Transfer of Credit (Internal).

To initiate the application process, please submit an Internal Transfer Credit Application here.

GENERAL EDUCATION TRANSFER CREDITS

When transferring credits toward general education course requirements, the transferred course needs to align with specific criteria, as outlined below. Unlike courses within your program of study, the transferred course does not need to be 80% equivalent to the corresponding St. Lawrence College course.

The transferred course must:

  • Be 42-45 hours in length
  • Have less than 30% applied learning outcomes
  • Be non-vocational to your program of study
  • Fit into one of the following general education themes:
    • Arts in society
    • Civic life
    • Social and cultural understanding
    • Personal understanding
    • Science and technology

To initiate the application process, please submit a General Education Transfer Credit Application here.

UNDERGRADUATE DEGREE BULK TRANSFER

Graduates who have completed a three- or four-year undergraduate degree from a recognized Canadian post-secondary institution may qualify for transfer credits toward one introductory communication course and up to three general education courses at St. Lawrence College. The degree must have been completed within the past 10 years, with a minimum average of 60% or C-.

International undergraduate degrees may also be eligible, subject to International Credential Evaluation and the language of instruction.

To initiate the application process, please submit an Undergraduate Degree Transfer Credit Application here.

HOW TO APPLY FOR TRANSFER CREDIT

  • Before submitting your Application for Transfer Credit, please read through all the information. Requests will not be accepted if the form is completed incorrectly.
  • Please be aware: Courses approved as equivalent and dropped from your timetable may impact your status as a full-time student, which may impact fee calculation and eligibility for OSAP, scholarships, bursaries, and student health plans.
  • Transfer credits are normally accepted from accredited colleges and universities. All other institutions will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
  • Transfer credits will not be awarded for courses taken at career/private colleges (however, they may qualify for an exemption).
  • Transfer credits from high school courses may only qualify if they are dual-credit courses.
  • Courses being transferred must be completed in the last five years to qualify unless specified by the program coordinator.
  • Once transfer credit has been accepted for one course, it cannot be used again towards another course in the same program.
  • Partial transfer credits will not be granted.
  • Denied transfer credits are not subject to appeals; however, students will be provided with the reason why their request was denied.

Transfer credit requests can be submitted two weeks prior to the semester start date and no later than the 10th day of classes.

  • If you apply by the deadline and the credit is approved, the course being replaced will be removed from your transcript.
  • If you apply after the deadline but before the academic penalty deadline, then a “W” grade will be applicable for the course being replaced.
  • If you apply after the academic penalty deadline, then an “F” grade would be applicable.
  • The transfer credit can still be used to satisfy graduation requirements.
