The Centre for Behavioural Studies at St. Lawrence College (SLC), will host the 10th annual Building Behavioural Solutions Conference April 17-18, 2019 in SLC's new Conference Centre. The conference will bring together experts in the fields of Applied Behaviour Analysis, Mental Health, Education and Organizational Behaviour to explore a broad number of approaches in the field of work and study.

The keynote will be delivered by Dr. William Heward from Ohio State University, who will discuss how educators can ensure the best outcomes for children with autism. Concurrent sessions and workshops will cover topics such as improving learning for every student, behavioural gerontology, forensic mental health and the criminal justice system, and much more. Other expert speakers include Dr.Janet Twyman, Lesley Barreira, Patricia Cole, Laura Methot, Nick Feltz, and Louis Busch. The conference also includes a poster gala by students in SLC’s Honours Bachelor of Behavioral Psychology degree program.

The Centre for Behavioural Studies (the Centre) at St. Lawrence College is a leader and innovator in Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) training and programming. Together with a team of experienced faculty and community partners, the Centre is uniquely equipped to become a provincial and, ultimately, a national resource for applied research leading to new best practices, novel educational opportunities and multidisciplinary behavioural interventions benefiting everyone from individuals to families, and business to government.

Since its opening in October 2018, the Centre has supported close to 20 SLC short- and longer-term student placements. “As well as running four assessment clinics we have started to support families in our community through the provision of clinical services in our Kingston community,” says Pamela Johnson, Manager, Centre for Behavioural Studies. “This conference is an excellent extension of the Centre’s goal to bring together professionals who want progressive training opportunities, support best-practices and want to explore opportunities to collaborate.”

The conference is sponsored by the Maltby Centre and is an ONTABA Satellite Conference. The Maltby Centre is the lead agency for the Southeast Region Ontario Autism Program serving the counties of Hastings, Prince Edward, Lennox and Addington, Frontenac and Lanark, Leeds and Grenville. Services and programs are specifically designed to support children, families, agencies and schools supporting children and youth with Autism Spectrum Disorders.
