Designer Bio

Alex Smith

My name is Alex, and I’m a graphic designer specializing in brand identity and culture. I love to design logos, identity systems, and designing for local organizations when I can. I also enjoy incorporating my personal hobbies into my work whenever I’m able to, whether it’s with my passion in film and digital photography, or my skills in digital and traditional illustration.
I love to work under limitations. I often use my film cameras for photography, as the limits of this older tech cause me to take the time to truly consider each photo before pressing the shutter button, which creates very colourful, meaningful pictures as a result.
I also love to travel and use whatever opportunities I have to explore new places, whether they’re massive monuments or small niche alleyways, and I always have my cameras on me to capture every moment.

Typography 4

Objective

Create an identity for the Breaking Boundaries convention by designing a brochure, poster, and website.

Description

This project involved creating a logo for the event and appropriately fitting large amounts of text onto a foldable double-sided poster and brochure, all while remaining legible, professional, and fitting the values of the convention and topic as a whole. A website for the event was also designed with the same content of the physical copy, but fitting for the constraints of the web.

Graphic Design 4

Objective

Redesign an existing product package to be more accessible, easier to use, and sustainable.

Description

This project involved auditing the current state of gum packaging to redesign it into a more environmentally sustainable product with 100% paper packaging, along with making it easier to use and understand.
This involved designing a package that slides open with the tab at the top and pushes in to close, so users can open and close the package with one hand while preoccupied in the car or at work.
