Artist Bio

Lauren Post is a 19 year old artist with features in 3 successful exhibitions. She uses art as a method of expressing herself, or to escape her life through fantasy and surrealism. Her unique life experiences have contributed to a diverse and communicative body of work.

Having an interest in art from a young age, Lauren attended a specialist Arts High School before graduating and enrolling in St.Lawrence College where she improved upon her skills and became skilled in a variety of new techniques. With a catalog of over 1000 sketches and nearly 100 finished works, Lauren is proficient in many mediums, mainly acrylic and pen and ink.

Artist Statement

I create art to vent frustrations or get validation. The art I make for myself is usually tonally far different from the art I make when I want to prove that I am a good artist.

I make most of my artistic decisions based on spur of the moment ideas, a concept is thought up and started immediately while I still have the motivation to do so. The initial stages of a piece are focused on getting an idea down exactly as I imagine it, while the later stages are focused on what will be the most simple yet striking way I can accomplish a finished product. I use acrylics because they're simple, and easy to fix mistakes in.

This style of painting and the evolution of my technique came about through me experimenting and painting for fun and seeing what worked or was the simplest way to do something well. The method is driven by the motivation, finding an easier/ faster way to paint was my way of combating not wanting to paint. I challenge myself by continuing to experiment and finding more effective ways to do something or create an effect in a painting.
