Students Explore Sustainable Learning in Costa Rica
With the goal of contributing to sustainability practices while developing intercultural competence skills, 21 students from St. Lawrence College were selected through a competitive process for the General Education course called Creating a Sustainable Society. This unique course, spanning from January to early May, started with classroom theory before culminating in a transformative two-week experience in Costa Rica. Jordan Ann Kevan de Haan was the faculty for this course, and Ross McMillan attended to help with student success and support.
Support Student Success with Beacon
In support of efforts to put students first, faculty are being reminded of the Beacon program and the important role played in connecting students who are presenting as at-risk academically. It is important to be aware of the indicators of academic risk, and to make referrals early. The Beacon program is most successful when referrals are made early in the semester allowing Student Success Facilitators (SSFs)* to have the biggest impact by working with individual students.
