Reconnecting with Nature: Sustainability Month Week Five
Reconnect with nature and learn about biodiversity on campus as we celebrate the final week of Sustainability Month! The SLC community is invited to get outside and work as a team tracking species through tri-campus bioblitz events. On Cornwall campus, get your hands dirty planting native trees and shrubs. For all events, please wear sturdy, comfortable footwear and dress for the weather – the events are rain or shine.
Environmental Tech Students Visit Thompson Island Cultural Camp
Eighteen first-year Environmental Technician students recently participated in a full-day field trip to Thompson Island Cultural Camp in Akwesasne, funded by the donor-supported Extraordinary Learning Fund. The trip provided an immersive, hands-on experience, integrating Indigenous Ways of Knowing and Being into environmental studies.
Project Management Students Pitch Projects in Cornwall
St. Lawrence College Cornwall's Innovation Hub was the scene of an inspiring "Ideas in Bloom” Project Pitch Presentations event on Wednesday, October 9. This evening of innovation highlighted the exceptional work of six teams from our Project Management program. Each team addressed pressing community issues and aligned their projects with the United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals. These collaborations with local organizations and college entities are a testament to the students’ dedication to creating lasting, positive change within their community and beyond.
Secret Path Week & Downie-Wenjack Legacy Space Openings
Gord Downie was the front man and lyricist of The Tragically Hip until his death from brain cancer on October 17, 2017. Gord’s last solo project, Secret Path, tells Chanie Wenjack’s story.  Secret Path Week, October 17 to 22, commemorates the legacies of Gord and Chanie and aims to inspire Canadians to respond to Gord Downie’s call to “Do Something” to build a better Canada.   Secret Path Week is especially meaningful this year, as members of Chanie’s extended family will be attending the opening of our new Downie-Wenjack Legacy Spaces in Brockville and Cornwall on October 17 and 18, respectively. The openings will take place at 1 pm at each campus library, and all are welcome to attend.
