New UR SLC Student Engagement Platform Launches
A brand new UR SLC web-based platform has launched that will keep students connected to life outside the classroom. Through the platform, students can get involved in student life by joining groups, registering and attending events and activities, earning badges, requesting their student ID card, posting on a community feed, chatting with peers, and so much more.
SLC students compete in Cornwall dragon boat race
A team of SLC students competed in the dragon boat race at the Cornwall Waterfest on Saturday, August 13, winning second place. The Festival is staged at the historic Cornwall Canal also known as Lock 19, where teams of 20 paddlers and a drummer face off down a 200 metre course. SLC student Rahul Xavier Gomez, who also serves as president of the Cornwall Malayali Association, was proud of the team’s win and grateful for the support the team received from the SLC community.
Summer ESL program welcomes students from Japan
Students from the Nagoya University of Foreign Studies in Japan are spending three weeks at St. Lawrence College’s Kingston campus this August as they complete the SLC Summer School English program. While SLC has a foreign exchange agreement with Nagoya University and sent and received students for semester exchanges prior to the pandemic, this is the first time Nagoya students have come to Kingston for the SLC Summer School English program.
Artisan Chocolate Training for SLC Professor
SLC Chef Professor Ryan Brown recently spent three days of intensive learning with Toronto artisan chocolate maker, ChocoSol, which will hopefully be the start of a new culinary partnership at the College.
Nursing Professors Publish Findings in Academic Journal
SLC Nursing professors Karin Zekveld and Dr. Renee Berquist have had their research published as the featured article for July in the AORN Journal, an academic journal dedicated to perioperative nursing. Their article, "Perioperative Nurse Recruitment: An OR Placement Program for Fourth-Year Nursing Students in Ontario,"  discusses SLC’s placement program for undergraduate students with local hospitals to enhance training in operating room procedures, and its success in SLC grads being hired.
